If you're looking for a lively beach, but with fewer crowds than Ogunquit, Wells is a good option. Although it doesn't have all of Ogunquit's amenities, it does have the essentials--lifeguard, restrooms and snack bar. The beachfront is lined with many cottages and homes. The sand is fine, the surf moderate and the undertow minimal.
