Blue Mermaid. Our experience at Blue Mermaid was less than stellar. Walking up to the restaurant you see the the large banner claiming that this is Rachel Ray's choice of the seacoast. Well, this is not our choice of Portsmouth. First off, there was nobody to greet us at the door. We waited for more than 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge that we walked into the place. The service was extremely slow (took 24 minutes just to get our drinks). The food was good, however. We had the calamari and scallops appetizer and the spinach salads. But as we walked in off the deck to avoid mosquitos, we were quickly approached by the hostess asking us for $5 to see the the guitar player. I explained that we just spent $90 on dinner and were finishing our drinks inside to avoid the mosquitos but that didn't seem like a good enough explanation. We left very unimpressed!
