Not so friendly. If you're looking for quality service, you might want to steer clear. Most of these servers/bartenders have clearly worked there too long. I have waited 20 minutes to order a second drink and was given attitude about it when i did call someone over. It's usually crowded, nowhere to sit and full of 'regulars' who you will watch get better service than you. overall frustrating and nothing special. There are far better places in Portsmouth than to waste your time stopping here

Total unprofessionalism. After having a drink on the wharf my friend and I went over to Coat of Arms for a beer. It was 10pm and I ordered a Bass and my friend ordered a Black and Tan. The bartender began to pour our beers and then said, "You guys are cut off. You need to leave. I saw you swavering." I said, "First off, I've literally had one beverage, and secondly, 'swavering' is not a word." He then raised his voice to a yell and said, "I've made my decision and I won't back down, now move on." Having just moved to Portsmouth from California I was extremely disappointed with this service. After speaking with a few other people around town I learned that this place has a record of tossing people who really aren't intoxicated. The whole experience was totally rediculous. I felt like the bartender was seriously getting off on kicking us out. Total power trip. The place is lame.

"Coat of SMOKE". upon entry you are greated by great clouds of cigarette smoke. The service and hospitality is extremely questionable. Not recomended

beer beer beer beer.
The best selection of UK brews on tap, and a decent menu at that.
The portobello mushroom sandwich is wonderful, as are the fish and chips.
It can be a bit smokey after 9pm, but it's a decent, relaxing place to go.
