Credit Card Surcharge? really?.
They just added a 25 cent surcharge on credit card transactions. Really in 2011 a credit card surcharge, gas stations don't even do that any more. I am moving on.

very, very disappointed.
I ran in for an iced coffee and a couploe of baked goods yesterday afternoon. The staff was friendly and iced coffee tasty, but the coffee was ridiculously expensive and 1/2 the size of the gourmet coffee roaster I usually frequent. The two baked goods were old and very stale, and the prices were outrageous - more than $2.00 for a stale, soggy cookie and blondie bar is inexcusable. Will not go there again.

Great coffee, but....
Have to agree with a previous poster on this one... if you can ignore the baristas this is a great experience with a good selection of coffees, pastries and the like along with pleasant outdoor seating. Perhaps the customer service is a bit of the old Abercrombie and Fitch Syndrome at play. Wouldn't stop me from going back however.

Fabulous Coffee and Excellent Service.
This is the best coffee on the seacoast with a great variety of roasts and flavors. The lattes are amazing and they know how to make a good cappucinno as well. The staff is efficient and friendly even when the line is out the door. I would highly reccomend Breaking New Grounds to anyone looking for a great coffee and a nice atmosphere to enjoy it in.

best iced coffee.
I visit this shop 4/5 days a week. I love their iced coffee and the service is usually fast and friendly. I just wished that they would use recyclable carry out cups. I will be bringing my own travel cup from now on but for the many people who wont do that it's a shame they can't just use recyclable plastic.

Rudest Staff anywhere.
Famously curt, rude, and obnoxious staff. Fantastic coffee and cookies, but have been treated so rudely that I will not go back. Five stars on the coffee ... owner needs to think about training the staff and managers in customer service. Known though Portsmouth for poor cust service unfortunately :(

Best Coffee on the Seacoast.
Breaking New Grounds has the best coffee in Portsmouth. Though the price for a small non-fat latte is $3.00 for a single, I still say every penny is worth it!
Not to mention that the workers always look happy (even at chatotic moments) and they don't seem fake.
The muffins are incredible, you just have to get there early enough in the morning to have a good selection. Sometimes the lines are ridiculous and it can get extremely busy at lunch hour too. The cafe itself has local artwork which is inspiring and as a writer I found the atmosphere helps the creative buzz.
The outdoor seating in warmer months generates crowds and like any European setting, perfect for people watching.
Breaking New Grouns IS breaking new grounds.

support your local coffee shop.
BNG has the best coffee in the Seacoast. Forget *$'s or any of the others.
They have the best variety in coffees, blended drinks, teas and juice offerings.
The baked goods are rather pedestrian - ranging from plain bagels to Alden Merrill-style cakes. One bright spot is their cookies.
Several round tables dot the restaurant, which can have lines out the door on a cool summer evening, or chilly winter day.
And, they are local.
