An Actual Cobbler in 2011 – First of all, this is a guy that fixes peoples' shoes for a living. That's what he does and he is good at it. He will tell you matter-of-fact what he can an can not do and charge you a ridiculously low price for his work. Having attempted to stretch my own shoes in the past, I can tell you that it takes several days, and I was unsuccessful. this guy told me up front it would take 3 days to do properly, and now I have a pair of proper fitting shoes. Charged me 10 bucks. If you are having a bad day and need a hug, your neighborhood cobbler is not the guy to help you. Local craftsmen deserve our support--it's hard enough to make a living as it is
Rudest business I've ever experienced. – I was told I could get a new pair of shoes stretched for my husband's funeral. Here I am newly widowed at 41 with seven children, and I'm running around getting ready for the services for my husband. I went to this business and asked to get my shoes widened. The cobbler got out a ticket, and said, "Friday OK?" And I said, "Oh, I was told [at the shoe store downtown] it could be done quickly while I wait?"
Him: Well, then, they lied to you.
Me: Or perhaps they were mistaken. It's just that I need these for my husband's funeral on Thursday.
Then he shrugged his shoulders and walked away!
How cold. Might be competent, but don't expect any sense of humanity from him.
