We had heard from friends that that the
Farm Bar and Grille was being pretty good. Most reviews seemed to support our friends' assessment. Still, my wife and I had not tried it because of the poor service from the previous ownership at that location. We pass by it several times per day as we live in Dover. Well, we decided to finally give it a shot yesterday evening around 5:30pm (a Saturday). We brought our two-year old daughter and found a quiet table. Things started out well enough despite only getting one of the waters we had asked for.
As we were getting settled, We overheard a server telling the couple a few tables away they were our of the IPA that i fancied, then a few minutes later she told the gentleman that they were out of an entree (I don't recall what it was) The cornbread was pretty good and our picky daughter was even eating it. We had ordered a appetizer and I had a choice of sides with my entree and I chose a salad for one of them. I arrived and looked fine. Fancy greens and a moderately soft tomato. My expectations were not too high and it tasted okay. After a few bites I discovered a greenish colored object in the salad and thought it was just a piece of plastic or paper. I would have just placed it off to the side and not made a fuss over it. However, to my surprise, the object was a band aid hidden under a layer of lettuce in the center of the salad. The gauze of the band-aid was stained with the balsamic vinaigrette. which masked whatever blood may have been soaked into it.
I promptly told our server when he brought our appetizer and informed him that I would pay for the drinks we had already received and we would not be staying. He seemed shocked said that he was going to tell or get the manager and promptly took the salad with the band-aid away. My wife gathered things up and went out to the car with our daughter. Nobody said goodbye. Which was not surprising. I waited about 7-10 minutes, after our server took the band-aid away to pay for our drinks. I do believe that I hear our server tending to another table while I was waiting. After nobody returned to speak to me I decided to just leave. As I was headed out our server said that the drinks would be comped.
I was not expecting to receive any free meals, drinks or the like, I would have liked to have had an apology. I guess what really disturbed me, besides having a band-aid in my salad, was that the manager did not appear at all. Either the manager and server assumed that we had already left or decided that either he or she did not want to confront and or apologize. This may indeed have been an isolated incident. However if there is one incident such as this, it is indicative of lack of a standard sanitation policy for employees or lack of managerial oversight. I feel that the manager should have addressed this health hazard with me immediately. I shall not return to this restaurant and suggest that others take this incident into consideration before frequenting this establishment.
