First of all...I was greeted by a barking dog. I don't consider my experience to be relaxing, considering I felt like I was at doggie daycare. When did a salon become a workplace where you can bring your dog....and I actually like dogs. Second, I don't mind paying good money on a good service, but, when you're paying lots of money on an uder average service... I have a problem. And third, yes I can agree the staff was nice, however, it was exteamly fake. I can't stand such a snooty environment!! I would never recomend anyone there!!

Cons: Dogs, Price, Staff.

Dear Maureen Emerson at Head Games is not only the most talented stylist to set scissors to my hair, she's also a therapist to my soul. She interprets precisely what I am looking for with my wild & curly hair by knowing who I am. Meanwhile, her expanse of knowledge in the field of skin and beauty is beyond compare. From the moment she begins massaging my scalp during the wash before the cut, I am transformed to a calm, relaxed state of being. From there, the magic begins. Maureen loves life and loves what she does; this shows in the results. She drops interesting little nuggests on balance in the soul and spiritual energy, thus aiding in maintaining that outside beauty on the inside. While I haven't experienced one of her massages or body treatments, I can only surmise they are spectacular. (Her exceptional talent in waxing also keeps me neurotic free.) I ALWAYS feel simply delicious after spending time with Maureen. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment in recommending her to anyone who wants to improve on the inside and out.

I've lived in Maine for 14 years and have been to just about every salon in Portland. I have have not be able to find a stylist who knows the right color for me and is skilled at cutting hair with a lot of curl. I've finally found Kate at Head Games Salon in Portland and hope that she never moves away! I honestly can't remember getting compliments on my color and since Kate has been coloring my hair I'm getting lots of compliments. She's an amazing stylist and I would highly recommend her to anyone!

My 20 and 30 something daughters recommended Maureen at Headgames, but I felt I was too old for someone young and cool. Maureen was terrific! She put me at ease, gave me good suggestions and did a great job on my hair. I was surprised by all the compliments I received, and I'm going back to have her do more.

I have never described a bikini wax as pleasant, but having had one this afternoon with Maureen I may have to revise my opinion. Maureen is delightful, not only engaging and intelligent about her craft but she advertises "gentle hair removal". She delivers. I don't know what her secret potion is, but it works.... Almost didn't feel it. Okay, maybe I felt it but she talks you through what she's doing. I'll be back.

The common theme of all these reviews seems to be about the amazing things that Maureen can do with curly hair, and mine was not an exception. At the risk of sounding repetitive I have to say that Mau is an extremely talented stylist and her knowledge about cutting and styling curly hair is truly astounding. Over the past year I had honestly gotten so frustrated with my hair that I had just decided to grow it out and straighten it on a regular basis. However, after I read about Head Games online I decided to give them a try. When I called to make an appointment I was pleasantly suprised that I got one that very same day. From the moment I walked in I loved the atmosphere. Mau and Jacquie were such sweethearts!! Mau is bi-racial, just like myself, so she completely understood my curly-haired woes. She did a great job of explaining everything she was doing as she cut my hair, as well as showing me how I could style it the same way at home. Mau also cut layers into my hair that look great with both straight and curly hair, which was something that was really important to me. She even had time to wax my eyebrows after my cut, which she also did an amazing job of. Needless to say I walked out of Head Games with defined bouncy curls and perfectly shaped brows. Head Games gets 5 stars from me and i'll definitely be going back there soon. Mau gets my highest of recommendations. You won't be disappointed!

I had my hair done this afternoon by Maureen, and I had to write a review to share what a positive experience I had. First of all, I am bi-racial, so I have very curly, unruly hair that many salons here in Maine are not trained to handle. I was nervous about trusting a local salon to get my hair done, but I am tired of making a trip to Boston every time I need a hair cut. From the first consultation, I felt very comfortable with Maureen and actually excited to work with her on my hair issues. She was really friendly and reassuring about my hard to control hair. When I went in to get my hair styled, Maureen not only gave me a great hair cut, but she also explained what she was doing and why every step of the way. She showed me a bunch of cool ways to work with my curly hair, and not against it. She showed me every product that she used and I was able to get them all right then & there after my hair cut- with her walking me through (I would have forgotten exactly each product name if left on my own). I left totally confident that with the products and instruction , I'll be able to maintain this great hair style. I would definately recommend Head Games & Maureen to anyone, especially people with curly hair. It really feels good to have some real direction instead of frustration with my curls! If you are looking for a place that can handle your curly/ethnic hair, definately check out Head Games, and ask for Maureen.

I am a new client at Head Games. I had my hair highlighted and a new style was created for me. I absolutely love it. I have never had a stylist look at my face shape and skin color and recommend what she thought would be perfect and get it right. I have trusted before and been disapointed, not this time, I have had so many comments on my complexion (which has not changed) and questions from total strangers " Where do you get your hair done?" Kate is absolutely the best! I look forward to my next visit, I am going to have a massage, then hair. They were offering a free massage if I booked my next 3 hair appointments. No Brainer :-) I can't wait...Check them out!

I just went to Headgames in Portland, Maine (Saturday, July 19th) and I am deeply disappointed with the results. I asked for blonde highlights with slight red lowlights. The red color is so bright that it looks ridiculous! And the highlights? Even worse! She only put highlights on the top of my head so when I pull it back I look like a skunk :( I have yet a chance to complain and intend on doing so (as they have been closed for the past two days). I also noticed that they advertised free highlights with your first cut there. I was charged for this service on top of the already outrageous prices. I was charged $200 for a disaster that I now can’t afford to fix! Please, anyone that is reading this: be warned that this place could have you ending up with a coloring nightmare!

The day of my wedding I went to Head Games with a picture of how I wanted my hair done... I have never been to Head Games before and I am not from Portland. My stylist was Maureen and she was absolutely wonderful!!!! When she was finished with my hair it was better than I had ever imagined!! They also gave me a glass of Champagne to celebrate my special day!!! At the wedding my wonderful husband said I was more beautiful on this day then he had ever seen me before!!! From the moment I stepped into the salon to the moment I left... I felt like the only customer in the place. They are truly first class and worth every penny that I spent there!! Thanks Maureen for making my special day so beautiful!! I will never forget it!!! I would highly recommend this salon, and if I lived in Portland I would be there monthly!!

Pros: Wonderful modern atmosphere, fun music and excellent service!
